Waldershelf Singers is an independent mixed voice choir with around 50 members. The choir was first formed as the Waldershelf Choral Society in 1962 and has been singing in and around Sheffield for over 50 years.  We changed our name in September 2010 to make it fit better with what we are – we are singers – and with what we do – we sing!  But, to be fair, we felt that the new name was also more appropriate for the times in which we live.

We exist by the subscription of members, by fund-raising, through concerts and occasional grant aid.

The choir’s primary purpose is to enjoy singing. It meets for rehearsals at The Venue, Stocksbridge once a week on Tuesday evenings, between 7:30 and 9:30 pm, to sing songs from our programme and rehearse new ones. Typically the choir appears in around twelve concerts or events each year. Its repertoire includes a wide variety classical sacred and contemporary secular material and we are always looking to evolve and develop the quality of our performance.

New members are welcome, particularly, at the moment, male tenor and bass voices, and should contact Secretary, Linda Rose on 0114 288 5779.  Members can be of any age or persuasion (our youngest member is 13 and our oldest is well into their 80’s). To begin with, you are only required to enjoy singing or indeed want to sing! No audition necessary. Of course you need to learn the disciplines of singing together in harmony. We have a lot of experienced choral singers in our midst, who are here to help you if you need. So call us and give us a try, it could change your life!
